Pre-exercise ergogenic aids- Why Wired™ leads the field?
By Jason Rickaby- Author, champion lifetime natural body builder
When helping to design Wired™, the multi-pronged, pre-workout, cell-volumising drink from PhD Nutrition, I tried to think (as I did with all the PhD range), “what would I want to get from the perfect pre-workout drink?”
As an athlete and competitive body builder, not to mention someone who has spend years making sports supplementation my life, I’ve always tried to get the best bang for my buck, so to speak.
Unlike other sports supplement designers, I actually use everything I help design. I use them daily, weekly and yearly in my attempt to progress my physique, strength and maturity as an athlete. I wouldn’t make any product I wouldn’t take myself. Why would I want to spend hours designing a product that I wouldn’t take myself? Doesn’t make sense right?
Why Wired?
I’ve always been a fan of pre-workout drinks. I don’t use them all the time, everyday of the year and think that should be the case. However when I do use one, I demand certain things from the drink, always have:
Now some guys don’t mind simple carbs before training and that’s their choice. For me, simple carbs always give me a sugar crash during my session, thereby affecting my ability to remain focussed throughout. Another reason I don’t really want carbs at this period is that I’m constantly trying to keep in good shape. I’m not one who tries to gain 50lbs during the winter, I always want to be lean. Carbs before training don’t allow me to do this. Afterwards, sure, I never fail to cram down simple carbs after workout to replenish glycogen, but before, no way! Wired™ contains less than 1 gram of impact carbs and only 6 grams in total. A must for those aiming to achieve good shape.
Wired™ contains 2 critical ingredients that allow me to really maintain awareness and focus throughout my sessions. L-Tyrosine has been around a long time, yet it’s a vital addition as a pre-cursor to critical “concentration and focussing” neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters signal the body to intensify its state of awareness. With the mind amped and at its maximum focussing potential, the body will follow and your workout will sail past with laser-like concentration. DMAE (Dimethylaminoethanol) is another neurotransmitter, the pre-cursor to Choline (acetylcholine). Choline is essential for the mind to operate at its sharpest. The combination of L-Tyrosine and DMAE are essential in a pre-workout blend. Without them, don’t bank on being able to work to your optimum level.
There have been many pretenders coming-along, claiming to work better than Creatine Monohydrate. Many perpetuate the myths of Monohydrate, saying it increases “puffiness”. Wrong. Good Creatine Monohydrate (the type of Creatine Monohydrate used in Wired™ and PhD Micronised Creatine) won’t cause puffiness, or water retention outside the muscle. Bad Creatine may. PhD include ample supplies of Creatine and Taurine, another amino acid vital to the “cell volumising”, “anabolic swelling” or “super compensation” effect. Basically these two heroes drag water, carbs and amino acids into the muscle making us stronger, bigger, fuller, more vascular and allow us to lift heavier for longer.
Electrolytes will ensure you don’t cramp up, even in the warmest of gyms where air-conditioning is non-existent and last night’s puke is still under the squat rack. Wired™ includes ample amounts of Potassium, sodium, magnesium and calcium, all involved with maintaining the bodies natural mineral balances and ensuring you can exercise without nasty cramps. Remember, dehydration can be very, very serious.
I have had some seriously bad-tasting pre-workout drinks. Some have tasted so bad I couldn’t even train properly 30 minutes later. Wired tastes good. It’s subtle and mixes well with either a shaker, or just by stirring in some cold water. Orange and Pineapple is my favourite, to me it tastes like the Robinsons fruit squash drink and that’s no mean feat when you consider the depth of quality ingredients within.
I’ve had the best workouts of the last 5 years since I began using Wired™. All the PhD athletes use it from Peter Chown (World Champion) to Rugby player Andy Moody. All testify that their training has gone through the roof. Even top level rugby league players use Wired before a game.
If you want to enhance focus, strength, energy, pump and cell volume I honestly believe you can’t get better than Wired™
